Battle - The Yard Game By Corkaine

Battle

This game has a lot of strategy to it, so make sure that you play offense (win your opponent’s black cups) and defense (protect your black cups) in this one. The object of this game is to capture your opponent’s soldiers (9 black cups furthest from you) before your opponent captures your soldiers (9 black cups closest to you). The first team to capture (win) all 9 of their opponent’s soldiers wins the game of Battle.

Classic Corkaine - How To Play
NOTE: only the BLACK cups are removed off of the board. The GOLD, RED, and SILVER cups stay where they are at and are not moved.

GAME SETUP: Divide into 2 teams (1-2 players per team) and choose a cork color for your team. Each team will get 10 corks. Next, place the cups on the board according to the pattern shown above. Teams will stand approximately 6 steps back (one person measures using the heel to toe technique) from the Corkaine gameboard on opposite ends and places down their spot markers to mark their shooting distance. Gameplay begins after one quick round of paper-rock-scissors to determine which team goes first.

GAMEPLAY: Teams take turns shooting their corks one at a time at the opposing team's soldiers (cups) on the opposite side of the gameboard. Once all corks have been shot by both teams, the round ends and both teams approach the gameboard to see which cups they have won. The team with the most corks in any one cup wins that cup and then follows the rules of that cup (see cup rules in the top right corner). When ruling the winners of the winning cups, the BLACK cups are ALWAYS ruled first and then followed by the GOLD cups, the RED cup, and then the SILVER cups. Once all of the winning cups are accounted for, all corks are gathered up by both teams and a new round begins. Rounds of gameplay continue until all of the BLACK cups of the opposing team's side are won off of the gameboard.
TIE-BREAKER RULES: If the game ends in a tie, a sudden death round is used as the tie breaker. In a sudden death round, all cups are removed from the gameboard and one black cup is placed in the middle of the board. The first team to win that single black cup (determined at the end of the sudden death round and after all corks have been shot by both teams) wins the tie-breaker and the game!
