Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How do you get started playing Corkaine?
To get started, pick a game to play and follow the instructions of that game. There are over 12 different games that you can play with a single Corkaine game set.

What game do you recommend playing first?
We recommend that you start with the game Classic Corkaine. It’s our most popular game because it’s strategic, competitive, and easy to learn.

How are the teams determined on Corkaine?
The teams are determined by cork color where Team Orange (orange corks) competes against Team Yellow (yellow corks).

How many players can play Corkaine?
2-4 players can play at a time. 1 vs 1, 1 vs 2, or 2 vs 2.

Which teams go first?
To determine which team goes first to start the game, we recommend playing a round of rock, paper, scissors. Teams can then either alternate who goes first after each round or have the team who won the previous round go first. Note: there is no real advantage in going first for most games.

How do you win cups for your team?
Teams win cups at the end of each round. Teams take turns tossing their team’s corks into specific cups on the board until they have thrown all of their corks at which time the round ends. At the end of each round, the team with the most corks in any one cup wins that cup and follows the rules of that cup.

How are the corks shot during each round?
If you are playing 1 vs 1 player teams, then each team will take turns shooting their corks one at a time. If you are playing on 2 vs 2 player teams, then each team will still take turns shooting their corks one a time, but team members can either choose to designate a shooter for every other round or they can alternate their shots during each round. Each team can choose whichever method of shooting that they feel the most comfortable with.

Which cups come off of the board and which cups stay on the board?
For most game, only the Black cups are removed off of the board. The Gold, Red, and Silver cups usually stay on the board unless noted differently on individual game instructions.

Is there a specific order when ruling winning cups?
Yes! At the end of every round, teams MUST rule the winning cup colors in the following order: 1. BLACK cups. 2. GOLD cups. 3. RED cup. 4. SILVER cups. Following this cup order allows for smooth gameplay. To help you remember the cup order, think of the word BOOGERS (BGRS) so that your gameplay doesn’t get stuck…like a booger!

How do I stop my opponent from winning cups?
By playing defense. Your team can play defense in most games by shooting a cork in a cup that already has an opponent’s cork in it to cancel it out. That way, nobody wins the cup. Defense wins championships…so they say. 🙂

What if the game we are playing results in a tie?
Then you follow the standard tie-breaker rules where ALL of the cups come off of the board (including all of the BlackGoldRed, and Silver cups) and a single Black cup gets placed back in the middle of the board. A new round of play is conducted and the first team to win that cup wins the tie-breaker and the game

How old do you have to be to play Corkaine?
The minimum recommended age for playing Corkaine is 16 years old. This is a lawn game designed for adults (including young adults 16+ years old).

Where can I play this?
We find the most popular venues to have great gameplay are parks, beaches, backyards, parties, universities, BBQ’s, offices, tailgating events, and camping. Basically, Corkaine can be played almost anywhere. The places we would not recommend playing Corkaine are mountainous cliffs (too dangerous) or playing in extreme weather conditions like hurricanes or tornadoes (seek shelter instead).

I want to have this in my office building for employees to play, but my space is small. Do you have any suggestions?
You can play Corkaine just about anywhere (outdoors and indoors). All you need is an 8′ x 2′ space (at a minimum) to play Corkaine, so if your office has at least this amount of space, you should be good to go!

What are the extra corks for?
We include 10 extra corks (5 extra corks per color) in all of our Corkaine game sets just in case you lose any of them.

What other games does Corkaine compare to?
It’s hard to compare Corkaine to other games or lawn games on the market because it’s not like other games and it stands in a league of its own. It’s similar to a board game because it has a lot of parts, there are multiple games you can play with it, and each game requires a different strategy to win it. It’s similar to beer pong, but without the beer. It’s similar to cornhole (or bags depending on where you are from) in that you divide into teams and line up across from one another. It’s similar to darts in that you shoot a device at an object. Corkaine is a different type of yard game that incorporates the best elements from other games out there.

Is Corkaine a drinking game?
No. Corkaine was never designed to be a drinking game. Corkaine is a lawn game that is played with wine corks that are shot strategically into the empty cups on the gameboard. Adding any type of liquid into the cups on the gameboard is not recommended as it will ruin gameplay and keep the corks from bouncing in and out of the cups that are trying to be won.

What happens if we lose or break a cup, cork, bag, or spot marker?
You can order replacement cups, corks, bags, and spot markers from our website. If the part you are wanting is not listed on the website, simply Contact Us  and we will send you a private link for you to order your replacement parts.

What happens if my Corkaine gameboard bends and become uneven?
This is normal and can be fixed by laying your Corkaine gameboard on a flat surface for several hours as it will usually flatten itself out on its own. This happens because of the special type of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) material that the top is made out of. It expands and contracts with temperature changes so give it some time on a flat surface and all will be good again.

Do you offer any returns?
If your Corkaine game set is in brand-new condition (not used) and in its original packaging, we offer a 30-day return policy from the date of purchase and proof of payment. You can view our return policy here.

Are you in retail stores?
No, Corkaine is currently only available for purchase on our website, Amazon, and Etsy. However, if you’re in the New Orleans, Louisiana area, Contact Us and we can make arrangements to get you a set in person.
